Lenses that change from light to dark
Transitions lenses, as many of you know, are plastic lenses that will darken in color when you walk outside, and lighten back up when you come inside. Transitions developed their lens technology many years ago, offering the first plastic lenses that darken up. Of course, in the beginning, the lenses had a bumpy start. As time moved on, Transitions continually critiqued their products, and today is a remarkable lens choice. Their newest is the Transitions Vantage, which when it darkens, the cells within the lenses have been aligned to a specific position to give a polarizing effect.
Transitions lenses darken when they are exposed to ultraviolet light. For this reason, these lenses are not a the best choice for someone who’s occupation requires them to spend much of their daylight hours behind the wheel of an automobile. Polarized lenses would be your best choice.
(As of 1-2014, Transitions has introduced the new Transitions Signature VII, which is supposed to perform better in indirect sunlight)
If you are the person consistently is moving back and forth between inside and outside, these lenses would compliment your lifestyle very well. They allow you to use one set of eyeglasses to accomplish your daily tasks, without constantly switching between your clear eyeglasses and sunglasses.
Ultra Violet (UV) Protection
Another point to consider is ultraviolet light filtration. These lenses will filter the harmful UV rays from getting to your eyes, whether they are light or dark in color.
Transitions lenses are also available in several different substrates, from CR-39 (standard plastic) to high index, to accommodate a particular frame style, or to help thin out a high refractive error.
